Thomasina Bateman, an antiquarian is writing a book on the history of barrows in England. It’s a record of the treasures that she discovers within. A captivating letter encourages her to explore the tiny village of Bewlay located in rural England. She travels there by train with her assistant that same day.
The mysterious figure who called her for help was missing upon her arrival. Her assistant never arrives. An uncompromising landowner denies access to his barrow and locals are suspicious of this lady going on her own, also (gasp!) wears trousers.
